A pap smear is recommended every 3 years for women between ages 21 to 65. Frequency should be greater for women who are at increased risk of HPV infection, such as women who are sexually active of have had a previous pap smear with abnormal results. The test can detect changes in your cervical cells that suggest cancer may develop in the future. Detecting abnormal cells early with a pap smear is your first step in halting the possible development of cervical cancer.

How it’s done:

A Pap smear involves collecting cells from your cervix — the lower, narrow end of your uterus that's at the top of your vagina

Your doctor will gently insert an instrument called a speculum into your vagina. The speculum holds the walls of your vagina apart so that your doctor can easily see your cervix. Inserting the speculum may cause a sensation of pressure in your pelvic area.

Meningococcal Vaccination

Typhoid fever, caused by the bacteria Salmonella typhi, is an illness characterized by symptoms such as - prolonged high fever, fatigue, upset stomach, headache, constipation or diarrhea, coughing, and appetite loss. Infection spreads by the consumption of contaminated food or water, and it’s crucial to treat it early, otherwise it can prove to be dangerous, even fatal. 

The Typhoid vaccine is usually an inactivated type of vaccine which triggers the immune system to produce antibodies to fight the Salmonella typhi bacteria if it enters the body. It is mandatory for people who work in the F&B industry and handle food, as per the Malaysian Food Act 1983 and Food Hygiene Regulation 2009. It is recommended for travelers who are traveling to countries where typhoid is common. The vaccine needs to be taken once every two years for people at high risk of exposure to the bacteria.

One of the most common infections that is spread by this bacteria is pneumonia, infection of the lungs. Pneumococcal Vaccination - Child

Caused by the varicella zoster virus (VZV), chickenpox is a highly contagious viral infection. It is characterized by many itchy, red, blister-like rashes on the skin all over the body, accompanied by fever, lethargy, loss of appetite and headache. The rashes usually last for a week or so, before they turn into patchy scabs. Although chickenpox can affect people of all ages, infants, pregnant women and immunocompromised patients are at particularly high risk of developing serious complications from the disease. The virus can remain inactivated in the body and cause a disease called shingles later in life, which can cause severe rashes and may potentially harm the nervous system. 

The chickenpox vaccination carries a small amount of inactivated virus into the body, triggering it to produce antibodies to help fend off infections when the body encounters the virus.
