Colonoscopy is an endoscopic procedure where the doctor uses a colonoscope (a slender,

Diphtheria Tetanus (DT) Vaccination

**Gastroscopy/Endoscopy** 

Gastroscopy or Upper GI Endoscopy is a diagnostic procedure to check the upper portion of the digestive system. The technique is also known as an OGDS (oesophagogastroduodenoscopy).
An endoscope is a slender, flexible tube containing a light and a tiny video camera, which
makes up the scope. Using the scope, the doctor sees the inside lining of your esophagus (the tube that transports food from your mouth to your stomach), stomach and duodenum (the top half of your small intestine). The procedure is usually not painful and will be performed under mild sedation (anesthesia) which can cause some minimal discomfort.

This test is suitable upon doctor’s referral for individuals with chronic symptoms like:

* gastrointestinal pain or discomfort
* reflux
* trouble swallowing
* bleeding or ulcer signs (eg. anemia or black stool)
* chronic constipation
* chronic diarrhea
* other intestinal problems

It is possible to identify disorders such as gastritis, polyps, ulcers, and even cancer using
endoscopy and colonoscopy. The procedure is recommended for individuals above the age of 45, especially with family history, to screen for gastrointestinal cancers.

**Colonoscopy** 

Colonoscopy is an endoscopic procedure where the doctor uses a colonoscope (a slender,
flexible tube containing a light and a tiny video camera which makes up the scope) to examine
and detect changes or abnormalities in the large intestine (colon) and rectum. It can detect early-stage colorectal cancer before symptoms develop further which can improve treatment outcomes.

Tissue samples (biopsy) can be collected and treatment can be performed through the colonoscope, if required. For example, polyps (small growth of tissue on the lining of the colon or rectum that may sometimes become cancerous) can be removed or bleeding can be controlled using diathermy (deep heating) or small clips. The procedure is usually not painful and will be performed under sedation (anesthesia) which can cause some minimal discomfort.

This test is suitable upon doctor’s referral for individuals with altered bowel habit, abdominal pain, rectal bleeding, chronic constipation, chronic diarrhea, other intestinal problems, anemias of unknown cause and patients with immediate family history of colon cancer. Recommended for individuals above the age of 45, especially with family history, to screen for colorectal and other related cancers.
