A detailed scan is recommended for pregnant women between the 18th to 28th weeks of gestation. It is a comprehensive scan to see whether the baby has any unusual structures or bodily formations. In comparison to a standard ultrasound scan, this scan allows the baby's organs and body structures to be examined in greater depth. This comprehensive scan examines every area of the baby and detects the vast majority of serious structural abnormalities. The baby's brain, face, spine, heart, lungs, diaphragm, stomach, kidneys, colon, and upper and lower limbs are all examined in detail from head to toe. The baby will also be checked for chromosome markers and small anomalies of normal anatomy that can be observed in babies with chromosomal disorders, such as renal pelvis dilatation, talipes, or echogenic bowel. To confirm the dates of the pregnancy and check the baby's development and growth, measurements from the placenta are obtained.
