How Amylmetacresol Works
Amylmetacresol is a phenolic antiseptic that is used as the main ingredient of Lozenges to treat minor throat and mouth infections. The mechanism is not fully elucidated. However, it is suggested that Amylmetacresol works by denaturation of external protein spikes, a pH-induced rearrangement of the tertiary structure of attachment proteins, or a selective effect on viral lipid membranes/protein-lipid interaction leading to bacterial/ viral death in patient with minor infections of mouth and throat.
