Bilastine is commonly used to treat allergic conditions.
How Bilastine Works
Bilastine is a non-sedating and long-acting antihistamine. It acts as an antagonist at the H1 receptors, preventing histamine from triggering immune-mediated reactions that cause allergic conditions.
Side Effects of Bilastine
Headache, Abdominal pain, Diarrhea, Weight gain Increased appetite, Thirst, Shortness of Breath, Anxiety, Fever, Insomnia
Warnings
Kidney Use With Care
Bilastine may cause increased side effects especially in patients with moderate kidney disease. Dose adjustments may still be required so please consult your doctor.
Alcohol Safe
Bilastine is safe to be consumed with alcohol. However, it is still safe to not binge drink after taking Bilastine as it may exacerbate side effects.
Pregnancy Not Safe
Animal studies have shown that there aren't any foetal risks so far, but there are none or limited human studies done at this point so it is best to consult your doctor before taking Bilastine.
Driving Generally Safe
Bilastine usually does not affect the ability to drive. Do not drive unless you are feeling well.
Liver Limited Data
Bilastine should be safe in patients with liver disease.
Lactation Limited Data
Bilastine has been found to be excreted in animal's breast milk but no proper human studies have been done. Therefore, it is best to discuss with your doctor.
