Uses of Cyclopentolate + Phenylephrine
This medication is used for ophthalmic purposes, primarily as a mydriatic (dilating the pupil) and as a cycloplegic (paralyzing the ciliary muscle of the eye) during diagnostic procedures and certain eye surgeries.
How Cyclopentolate + Phenylephrine Works
Cyclopentolate works by blocking the action of acetylcholine at muscarinic receptors in the eye, leading to pupil dilation and paralysis of accommodation. Phenylephrine acts as a sympathomimetic agent, causing vasoconstriction of blood vessels in the eye, which further contributes to pupil dilation.
