This combination medication is used for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus.

How Empagliflozin + Linagliptin Works

Empagliflozin works by inhibiting the sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT2) in the kidney, reducing reabsorption of glucose and increasing its excretion in the urine. Linagliptin works by inhibiting dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4), thereby increasing levels of incretin hormones, which stimulate insulin release and decrease glucagon levels.

Common side effects may include urinary tract infections, genital yeast infections, hypoglycemia, and upper respiratory tract infections.
