Gramicidin is commonly used to treat Skin infection, conjunctivitis, Eye Infection With Inflammation and ear infection

How Gramicidin Works

Gramicidin is an antibacterial. It is used as a topical and ophthalmic agent. It exists in a form of combination with other antibacterials and with corticosteroids.

Side Effects of Gramicidin

Maculopapular rash, Urticaria, Vesicular eruption, Nausea, Angioedema, Burning sensation of eyes, Eye irritation (transient)

Warnings

Kidney Use With Care

Adverse effect of Gramicidin may be enhanced with renal impairment. Hence, dosage adjustment is required. Please consult your doctor.

Alcohol Limited Data

There is no information regarding the interaction with alcohol.

Pregnancy Not Safe

Gramicidin may be unsafe to be used during pregnancy. Animal studies have shown adverse effects on the fetus such as cleft palate and intrauterine growth retardation, however, there are limited human studies. It is permissible to be used when the benefits outweigh the risks. Please consult your doctor.

Driving Not advisable

Gramicidin can cause transient visual blurring. It is not recommended to take the medication unless vision is clear.

Liver Limited Data

Dosage titration is required in patient with liver disease. Therefore, please consult your doctor.

Lactation Limited Data

There is no information about Gramicidin excretion in human milk. Therefore, it is not recommended to take Gramicidin whilst lactating.
