How Hydrochlorothiazide Works
Hydrochlorothiazide is a diuretic. It works by inhibiting the reabsorption of Na in the distal tubules causing increased excretion of Sodium Na, water H2O, potassium K and hydrogen ions.
Side Effects of Hydrochlorothiazide

Warnings
Kidney Use With Care
Dose adjustment is required in patients with kidney disease. In patients with severe renal function, use is not recommended. Please consult your doctor.
Alcohol Not Advisable
It is unsafe to consume alcohol with Hydrochlorothiazide as there is a risk of additive effect such lowering blood pressure. You may experience headache, dizziness, lightheadedness, fainting, and/or changes in pulse or heart rate
Pregnancy Maybe Safe
Both animal studies and human studies are insufficient to show adverse effects on the fetus. Pregnant women may use it if the benefits outweigh the risks. Please consult your doctor.
Driving Not advisable
The usage of Hydrochlorothiazide may impair general attention and affect the ability to drive as it can cause side effects such as dizziness, somnolence and palpitations.
Liver Use With Care
Hydrochlorothiazide should be used with caution in patients with liver disease as it may precipitate hepatic coma.
Lactation Not Advisable
Hydrochlorothiazide is excreted in human milk. It also reduces milk production due to it diuresis effect.
