How Indacaterol Works

Indacaterol works by binding to beta-2 receptor in the airway smooth muscle causing them to relax.

Side Effects of Indacaterol

Cough, Upper respiratory tract infection, Headache, Dizziness, Nausea, Chest pain, Palpitation, Itchiness, Rashes, Muscle spasm

Warnings

Kidney Safe If Prescribed

There is no dosage adjustment needed in patients with renal impairment according to the manufacturer labelling.

Alcohol Safe

There is no clear contraindication on the consumption of alcohol when taking Indacaterol.

Pregnancy Not Safe

Animal data suggest no risk in respect to reproductive toxicity or fetal harm but due to potential adverse effect during giving birth, it is not recommended to be used unless the benefit outweighs the risks.

Driving Not advisable

It is not advisable to drive when under Indacaterol treatment due to its potential side effects such as headache and dizziness which can affect the ability to concentrate and drive.

Liver Limited Data

There is no dosage adjustment needed for mild to moderate hepatic impaired patients and no data available for dosage use in patients with severe liver impairment.

Lactation Limited Data

It is not known whether Indacaterol is excreted in human breast milk or not. Due to its potential toxicity towards the nursing infant, it is recommended either to stop breastfeeding or stop the treatment.
