How Isosorbide Dinitrate Works
Isosorbide Dinitrate is an anti-anginal drug. It works by relaxing the vascular smooth muscles hence decreases the ventricular (heart chamber) pressure and resistance of the artery which is high in patients with angina and heart failure.
Side Effects of Isosorbide Dinitrate
Dizziness, Headache, Syncope, Rapid heartbeat, Heartburn, Nausea, Vomit
Warnings
Kidney Use With Care
Isosorbide Dinitrate should be used with caution in patients with severe kidney disease. Dose adjustment of Isosorbide Dinitrate may be needed. Please consult your doctor.
Alcohol Not Advisable
It is unsafe to consume alcohol with Isosorbide Dinitrate. Taking Isosorbide Dinitrate with alcohol may have additive effects on vasodilation. Side effects of alcohol such as dizziness, headache and rapid heartbeat may worsen with alcohol intake.
Pregnancy Not Safe
Animal studies have shown adverse effects on the fetus, however, there are no adequate and well-controlled human studies. However, if benefit of use justifies risk, usage of Isosorbide Dinitrate may be considered. Please consult your doctor.
Driving Not advisable
(Do not drive unless you are feeling well.) Isosorbide Dinitrate may cause side effects such as dizziness, headaches, nausea or tiredness, all of which could affect your ability to concentrate and drive.
Liver Limited Data
Isosorbide Dinitrate should be used with caution in patients with liver disease. Dose adjustment of Isosorbide Dinitrate may be needed. Please consult your doctor.
Lactation Limited Data
There are limited data on usage of Isosorbide Dinitrate during lactation. Usage is therefore suggested if benefit justifies the risk.
