Magnesium Carbonate is commonly used to treat indigestion, heartburn, dyspepsia and flatulence.

How Magnesium Carbonate Works

Magnesium carbonate is an antacid which works to neutralise gastric hypersecretion. Magnesium carbonate reacts with hydrochloric acid in the stomach to form soluble magnesium chloride and carbon dioxide.

Side Effects of Magnesium Carbonate

Diarrhea, GI Irritation, Hypermagnesemia, Paralytic Ileus, Laxative effect

Kidney Use With Care

Magnesium Carbonate should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease due to hypophosphatemia. Dose adjustment of Magnesium Carbonate may be needed. Please consult your doctor before using it. Use of Magnesium Carbonate is not recommended in patients with kidney failure.

Alcohol Limited Data

Drug interactions between alcohol and Magnesium Carbonate is largely unknown. Please consult your doctor before using it.
