Activated Dimethicone/Simethicone is commonly used to treat Abdominal Pain and Bloating.

How Simethicone Works

Activated Dimethicone/Simethicone is an active substance to regulate bowel function by changing the surface tension of the intestinal mucous to eliminate excessive gas, air or foam in people with abdominal pain and bloating.

Side Effects of Simethicone

Drowsiness, Regurgitation, Diarrhea, Nausea, Vomiting, Bloating, Heartburn, Constipation

Warnings

Kidney Use With Care

Simethicone should be used with cautions in patients with severe kidney disease. Studies showed Simethicone was eliminated in faeces and no increase in urinary salicylate output.

Alcohol Not Advisable

It is unsafe to consume alcohol with Simethicone. Taking Simethicone with alcohol may have additive effects of drowsiness.

Pregnancy Limited Data

Simethicone may be safe to use during pregnancy. No studies have shown adverse effects on the fetus. The benefits from use in pregnant women may be acceptable despite the risk. Please consult your doctor.

Driving Generally Safe

Simethicone usually does not affect the ability of driving. Do not drive unless you are well.

Liver Safe If Prescribed

Simethicone is safe to be used in patients with liver disease. In human studies, it showed no evidence of absorption of the silicone.

Lactation Safe If Prescribed

Simethicone is probably safe to use during lactation. Simethicone can be used from birth onwards.
