Uses of Simvastatin

Simvastatin is commonly used in the treatment for patients with High Cholesterol, High Ldl Levels, High Triglycerides, Low Hdl Good Cholesterol Levels.

How Simvastatin Works

Simvastatin is a dyslipidaemic agent. It inhibits an enzyme that catalyses the cholesterol biosynthesis. As a result, it reduces LDL cholesterol and triglycerides levels and increases HDL (good cholesterol) levels.

Side Effects of Simvastatin

Headache, Nausea, Dizziness, GI disturbances, Rash, Jaundice, Visual disturbances, Sexual dysfunction

Warnings

Kidney Use With Care

No dose adjustment is needed for patients with mild and moderate kidney insufficiency. However, if the creatinine clearance is less than 30 mL/min, dose adjustment may be needed. Please consult your doctor.

Alcohol Not Advisable

It is unsafe to consume alcohol with Simvastatin because it may worsen your hepatic condition. Please consult your doctor for more details.

Pregnancy Not Safe - High Risk

Both studies in animal and human studies show fetal risk for the mothers who are taking Simvastatin. It is not recommended to be used during pregnancy.

Driving Generally Safe

Simvastatin usually does not affect the ability to drive. Do not drive unless you are feeling well.

Liver Use With Care

Simvastatin is contraindicated for patients with active liver disease. However, if the patients are not in the active phase, Simvastatin can be prescribed but with dosage adjustments. Please consult your doctor for more details.

Lactation Not Advisable

Simvastatin is contraindicated for breastfeeding mothers. Please consult your doctors to see any other alternative drugs available.
