Uses of Tibolone

Tibolone is commonly used for Hormone Replacement Therapy and Post Menopausal Osteoporosis.

How Tibolone Works

Tibolone is a steroid that has estrogenic, progestogenic and androgenic effects which able to function as hormone replacement therapy for menopausal women to relieve their symptoms and prevent postmenopausal osteoporosis.

Side Effects of Tibolone

Weight gain, Dizziness, Rash, Headache, Visual disturbances, Gut disturbances, Facial hair growth, Liver dysfunction, Irregular vaginal bleeding

Warnings

Kidney Use With Care

Caution use has to be practised in patients with kidney impairment as fluid retention and body oedema may happen.

Alcohol Not Advisable

There is no known interaction between alcohol and Tibolone. However, there is an increased risk of breast cancer development in the long term when taking alcohol and Tibolone concomitantly. Thus, alcohol is not advisable when receiving Tibolone treatment.

Pregnancy Limited Data

There are no therapeutic indications of Tibolone during pregnancy so there are no clinical data to date. It is contraindicated during pregnancy and if women found pregnant during the treatment, Tibolone should be withdrawn immediately.

Driving Generally Safe

Tibolone usually does not affect the ability to drive. Do not drive unless you are feeling well.

Liver Use With Care

Tibolone should be discontinued in patients with abnormal liver function and should not be used in patients with severe liver impairment.

Lactation Not Advisable

Tibolone is contraindicated during breastfeeding.
