Meningococcal Vaccination

Typhoid fever, caused by the bacteria Salmonella typhi, is an illness characterized by symptoms such as - prolonged high fever, fatigue, upset stomach, headache, constipation or diarrhea, coughing, and appetite loss. Infection spreads by the consumption of contaminated food or water, and it’s crucial to treat it early, otherwise it can prove to be dangerous, even fatal. 

The Typhoid vaccine is usually an inactivated type of vaccine which triggers the immune system to produce antibodies to fight the Salmonella typhi bacteria if it enters the body. It is mandatory for people who work in the F&B industry and handle food, as per the Malaysian Food Act 1983 and Food Hygiene Regulation 2009. It is recommended for travelers who are traveling to countries where typhoid is common. The vaccine needs to be taken once every two years for people at high risk of exposure to the bacteria.

Typhoid Vaccination

Pneumococcal disease is caused by a bacterial species known as Streptococcus pneumoniae, and can cause a variety of mild to life threatening infections. One of the most common infections that is spread by this bacteria is pneumonia, infection of the lungs. However the bacteria can also cause infection of the bloodstream (leading to bacterial sepsis), meningitis, ear or sinus infection. Symptoms can be aggravated by the presence of other underlying conditions. 

Vaccination protects against severe pneumococcal disease and aids the body to produce antibodies to fight infection. Pneumococcal Vaccination - Child

A pap smear is recommended every 3 years for women between ages 21 to 65. Frequency should be greater for women who are at increased risk of HPV infection, such as women who are sexually active of have had a previous pap smear with abnormal results.
