Pap Smear

An IUD is a little T-shaped copper device that is inserted into the uterus. It releases copper to prevent pregnancies, and it lasts between 5 and 10 years, depending on the variety. They can be more than 99% effective when properly implanted and begin working immediately. As long as you're not pregnant, it can be inserted at any point throughout your menstrual cycle.

An IUD works by distributing copper into the womb. Copper changes the cervical mucus, making it more difficult for sperm to reach an egg. It can also prevent a fertilized egg from implanting itself.

The procedure usually lasts around 20 to 30 minutes. The IUD is put via the cervix and into the womb while the vagina is held open with a speculum, similar to a pap smear test. You can opt to receive a local anesthetic to ease the pain or discomfort. 

IUDs are recommended for women who want to use a reversible contraceptive implant to prevent unwanted pregnancies. If you are above the age of 40, you can keep your IUD in place until you hit menopause or no longer need contraception.

Intrauterine Device (Copper) - IUD

Typhoid fever, caused by the bacteria Salmonella typhi, is an illness characterized by symptoms such as - prolonged high fever, fatigue, upset stomach, headache, constipation or diarrhea, coughing, and appetite loss. Infection spreads by the consumption of contaminated food or water, and it’s crucial to treat it early, otherwise it can prove to be dangerous, even fatal. 

The Typhoid vaccine is usually an inactivated type of vaccine which triggers the immune system to produce antibodies to fight the Salmonella typhi bacteria if it enters the body. It is mandatory for people who work in the F&B industry and handle food, as per the Malaysian Food Act 1983 and Food Hygiene Regulation 2009. It is recommended for travelers who are traveling to countries where typhoid is common. The vaccine needs to be taken once every two years for people at high risk of exposure to the bacteria.

Typhoid Vaccination

Pneumococcal disease is caused by a bacterial species known as Streptococcus pneumoniae, and can cause a variety of mild to life threatening infections. One of the most common infections that is spread by this bacteria is pneumonia, infection of the lungs. However the bacteria can also cause infection of the bloodstream (leading to bacterial sepsis), meningitis, ear or sinus infection. Symptoms can be aggravated by the presence of other underlying conditions.

Pneumococcal Vaccination - Child

Meningococcal disease, caused by the bacterial species Neisseria meningitidis, is an infection that primarily attacks the lining of the brain and spinal cord, called meninges. The infection can cause inflammation of the meninges (meningitis) which can lead to severe and often fatal complications.
