To adequately deliver oxygen to your body's tissues, you need enough healthy red blood cells. Anemia is a condition where the body doesn't produce enough healthy red blood cells due to a deficiency or the healthy cells are destroyed excessively because of a disease.  Being anemic, or having low hemoglobin, can make you feel exhausted and frail.

Anemia can have many different forms, each with a unique origin. It can be mild to severe and can be short-term or long-term. Anemia typically has multiple causes. Blood test for anemia includes testing for deficiencies in the vital components required in the production of healthy red blood cells.
