Uses of Acyclovir Topical

Acyclovir is commonly used in the treatment of Chickenpox, Chronic Hepatitis C Virus HCV Infection, Eye Infections By Herpes Simplex Virus, Genital Herpes Infection, Herpes Labialis, Herpes Simplex Virus Infections and Shingles.

How Acyclovir Topical Works

Acyclovir is an antiviral, which belongs to the class of nucleotides and nucleosides. Acyclovir works by interfering with viral DNA polymerase in people with chickenpox and chronic hepatitis C virus infection. It stops the viral DNA replication through chain termination.

Side Effects of Acyclovir Topical

Nausea, Vomiting, Abdominal pain, Diarrhea, Skin rashes or hives, Dizziness, Drowsiness, Malaise, Headache, Confusion, Hallucination

Warnings

Kidney Safe If Prescribed

Acyclovir Topical is not used for internal consumption and the amount absorbed into the circulatory system also is negligible. It is, therefore, safe to be used even in a patient with renal impairment.

Alcohol Safe

As Acyclovir Topical is used topically, the risk of interacting with alcohol consumed is negligible.

Pregnancy Maybe Safe

The safety of Acyclovir Topical in human pregnancy is not established. Therefore, Acyclovir Topical should only be used for pregnant women after careful risk/benefit assessment by the doctor.

Driving Generally Safe

Acyclovir Topical should not affect alertness or driving ability.

Liver Safe If Prescribed

Acyclovir Topical is not used for internal consumption and the amount absorbed into the circulatory system also is negligible to cause any effect , therefore, safe to be used even in a patient with liver impairment.

Lactation Limited Data

Acyclovir Topical is most likely safe to be used during lactation. Limited data are suggesting that the medication does not pose a significant risk to the baby. Please consult your doctor before use.
