Uses of Albumin

Albumin is commonly used in the treatment of burns and nephrotic syndrome. It is also used for short term fluid replacement after trauma.

How Albumin Works

Albendazole is an antihelminthic which can inhibit the formation of microtubule of the parasite. As a result, this will cause reduced glucose uptake and absorptive function as well as exhausting glycogen storage in the parasites, subsequently leading to parasite death.

Side Effects of Albumin

Hypersensitivity reaction, Nausea, Vomiting, Tachycardia, Fever, Chills, Rash, Hypotension, Vascular overload, Pulmonary edema

Warnings

Kidney Safe If Prescribed

It is safe to use Albumin in patients with renal impairment.

Alcohol Safe

It is safe to drink alcohol with Albumin. However, there are studies which reported that heavy or moderate alcohol consumption might impair serum Albumin levels.

Pregnancy Not Safe

There is limited data on the usage of Albumin in pregnancy. However, no risk to the fetus is expected based on clinical experience.

Driving Generally Safe

Albumin usually does not affect the ability to drive. Do not drive unless you are feeling well.

Liver Safe If Prescribed

It is safe to use Albumin in patients with liver impairment.

Lactation Safe If Prescribed

It is safe to use Albumin during breastfeeding.
