Uses of Aluminium Hydroxide
Alprazolam is commonly used in the treatment of alcohol withdrawal, anxiety, epilepsy, insomnia, muscle spasm, and short term anxiety. It is also used for conscious sedation during diagnostic or therapeutic procedures, as an anaesthesia, and as a sedative.
How Aluminium Hydroxide Works
Aluminium Hydroxide is an inorganic salt that is able to neutralize the gastric juice in the stomach to produce aluminium chloride and water, thereby increasing the pH in the stomach.
Side Effects of Aluminium Hydroxide
Constipation, Faecal discolouration and impaction, Nausea, Vomiting, Stomach cramps, Hypomagnesaemia, Hypophosphataemia
Warnings
Kidney High Risk
Aluminium Hydroxide is contraindicated in patients with kidney impairment. Please consult your doctor.
Alcohol Not Advisable
There is no known interaction between alcohol and Aluminium Hydroxide. However, alcohol is able to worsen the peptic ulcer leading to severe bleeding. Thus, it is not advisable to consume alcohol during the treatment of Aluminium Hydroxide.
Pregnancy Limited Data
There are limited data on the use of Aluminium Hydroxide in pregnant women from animal studies and human studies. Thus, caution use has to be practised during pregnancy. Please consult your doctor.
Driving Generally Safe
Aluminium Hydroxide usually does not affect the ability to drive. Do not drive unless you are well.
Liver Safe If Prescribed
Aluminium Hydroxide is safe to be used in patients with liver impairment.
Lactation Safe If Prescribed
Excretion of Aluminium Hydroxide has been found in human breast milk but the risk on breastfed infants is not significant. Thus, it is safe to be used during breastfeeding.
