How Atomoxetine Works

Atomoxetine is a highly selective and potent antagonist of the presynaptic noradrenaline transporter, thus decreasing noradrenaline effect which will help to relieve symptoms of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).

Side Effects of Atomoxetine

Decreased appetite, Headache, Somnolence, Dizziness, Abdominal pain, Nausea and vomiting, Increased blood pressure, Increased Heart Rate, Irritability, Mood swings, Dermatitis, Fatigue

Warnings

Kidney Safe If Prescribed

Dose adjustment of Atomoxetine is not needed in patients with kidney disease.

Alcohol Not Advisable

Atomoxetine may have side effects such as dizziness, somnolence and changes in pulse or heart rate. Therefore, it is not advisable to consume alcohol and the medication.

Pregnancy Not Safe

Atomoxetine may be unsafe to use during pregnancy. Animal studies and human studies do not indicate adverse effects on the fetus. However, these data are inadequate to assume that it is safe to use the medication during pregnancy. Usage is permissible in cases where benefits outweigh the risks.

Driving Not advisable

Atomoxetine may cause side effects such as dizziness, fatigue, somnolence and affect pulses, all of which could affect your ability to concentrate and drive.

Liver Limited Data

Atomoxetine should be used with caution in patients with liver disease. Dose adjustment of Atomoxetine may be needed especially in moderate or severe liver impairment.Please consult your doctor.

Lactation Limited Data

Atomoxetine is found in rats milk. There are lack of human data suggesting that Atomoxetine is not present in human milk. Hence, taking the medication during breastfeeding should be avoided.
