Uses of Chondroitin
Chondroitin is commonly used in the treatment of Osteoarthritis.
How Chondroitin Works
Chondroitin is a type of anti-inflammatory drug that belongs to glycosaminoglycans. Chondroitin works by stimulating proteoglycan production of chondrocytes. It also inhibits the production of certain proteolytic enzymes that leads to osteoarthritis. Thus, it helps to relieve pain in such patients.
Side Effects of Chondroitin
Peripheral oedema, tachycardia; CNS disturbances (drowsiness, headache, somnolence, insomnia); GI disturbances (nausea, vomiting, Diarrhea, dyspepsia or epigastric pain, flatulence, constipation, heartburn, anorexia); cutaneous rash, erythema, pruritus; dermatitis, papular rash, urticaria, eczema (occasionally), hair loss, allergic reaction, visual disturbances, oedema
Warnings
Kidney Use With Care
Chondroitin should be used with caution in patients with severe kidney disease. Dose adjustment of Chondroitin may be needed. Please consult your doctor.
Alcohol Safe
There is no known interaction of Chondroitin with alcohol.
Pregnancy Maybe Safe
The use of Chondroitin during pregnancy is not recommended due to lack of studies on human reproductive system. Please consult your doctor.
Driving Generally Safe
Chondroitin usually does not affect the ability to drive. Do not drive unless you are feeling well.
Liver Limited Data
