Uses of Desloratadine

Desloratadine is commonly used in the treatment of Allergic Eye Disease and Allergic Skin Conditions. It is also used to relieve symptoms such as nasal allergy symptoms, sneezing and runny nose due to allergies.

How Desloratadine Works

Desloratadine is a type of non-sedating antihistamine. It selectively inhibits peripheral histamine H1-receptor which prevent the release of pro-inflammatory mediators from human mast cells and basophils, relieving the allergy reactions in the body.

Side Effects of Desloratadine

Myalgia, Fatigue, Somnolence, Headache, Dizziness, Insomnia, Nausea, Vomiting, Dyspepsia, Diarrhea

Warnings

Kidney Use With Care

Desloratadine should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease as it is excreted through urine. Dose adjustment of Desloratadine may be needed. Please consult your doctor.

Alcohol Not Advisable

It is unsafe to consume alcohol with Desloratadine. Taking Desloratadine with alcohol may increase CNS depression and leads to sedative effects.

Pregnancy Not Safe

Desloratadine may be unsafe to use during pregnancy. Animal reproductive studies have shown adverse effects on the fetus. However, there are limited well-controlled studies in humans. The benefits from the use of Desloratadine in pregnant women may be acceptable despite the risk. Please consult your doctor.

Driving Generally Safe

Desloratadine usually does not affect the ability to drive. Do not drive unless you are feeling well.

Liver Use With Care

Desloratadine should be used with caution in patients with liver disease as Desloratadine is metabolized in the liver. Dose adjustment of Desloratadine may be needed. Please consult your doctor.

Lactation Not Advisable

Desloratadine is probably not safe to use during lactation. Desloratadine is excreted into breast milk.
