Uses of Ferrous Fumarate

Ferrous fumarate is commonly used in the treatment of iron deficiency anemia and anemia during pregnancy.

How Ferrous Fumarate Works

Ferrous fumarate is an oral iron preparation. It is used to increase the iron level which is required for haemoglobin synthesis. It is particularly used for patients with iron deficiency anaemia.

Side Effects of Ferrous Fumarate

Nausea and vomiting, Abdominal discomfort, Dark stool, Altered bowel habit, Heartburn, Dental discolouration, Urine discolouration

Warnings

Kidney Safe If Prescribed

It is safe to use Ferrous Fumarate in patients with kidney impairment.

Alcohol Safe

There is no known interaction between alcohol and Ferrous Fumarate. Please consult your doctor.

Pregnancy Limited Data

Ferrous Fumarate is not assigned to any FDA pregnancy category. It is used during pregnant women with anaemia.

Driving Generally Safe

Ferrous Fumarate usually does not affect the ability to drive. Do not drive unless you are well.

Liver Safe If Prescribed

It is safe to use Ferrous Fumarate in patients with liver impairment.

Lactation Safe If Prescribed

Ferrous Fumarate does not show any adverse effects in breastfed infants. It can be used during breastfeeding if indicated.
