How Glucosamine Works

Glucosamine is used for the treatment of osteoarthritis. Glucosamine is knowns as a precursor for glycosaminoglycans. Since glycosaminoglycans are a major component of joint cartilage, glucosamine tablets may help to rebuild cartilage and treat arthritis

Side Effects of Glucosamine

Exacerbation of asthma, Hypercholesterolemia, Headache, Fatigue, Drowsiness, Flushing, Heartburn, Flatulence, Abdominal pain, Rashes

Warnings

Kidney Use With Care

There is inadequate human studies on the effects of Glucosamine in kidney functions. However, there are few reports of renal function abnormalities in patients consuming this drug. It is contraindicated in severe renal impairment.

Alcohol Not Advisable

It is unsafe to consume alcohol with Glucosamine. Taking Glucosamine with alcohol may aggravate the side effects of Glucosamine such as drowsiness and headache

Pregnancy Not Safe

There are no adequate evidence in human studies on the potential risk of Glucosamine in pregnant mother or a fetus. However, it is advisable to use it with caution in pregnancy.

Driving Not advisable

Do not drive unless you are feeling well. Glucosamine may cause side effects such as dizziness or drowsiness, all of which could affect the ability to concentrate and drive.

Liver Limited Data

Glucosamine should be used with caution in patients with liver disease as there was evidence of acute liver injury and hepatotoxicity in chronic liver disease.

Lactation Limited Data

There is no evidence of the adverse effect of Glucosamine on nursing infants. However, Precaution needs to be taken for the usage of Glucosamine in nursing mother
