Uses of Griseofulvin

Griseofulvin is commonly used in the treatment of fungal infections, fungal infections of mouth thrush, nail infections and skin infections.

How Griseofulvin Works

Griseofulvin is an antifungal. It works by inhibiting fungal cell division and it binds to the human keratin, leading to resistance of fungal infections. It also interferes with the DNA production hence interrupts the growth of fungus.

Skin rashes, Urticaria, Dry mouth, Taste alteration, Headache, Angioedema, Dizziness, Confusion, Insomnia, Fatigue

Warnings

Kidney Use With Care

Griseofulvin should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease. Dose adjustment of Griseofulvin may be needed. Please consult your doctor.

Alcohol Not Advisable

It is unsafe to consume alcohol with Griseofulvin. Taking Griseofulvin with alcohol may increase the alcohol effects.

Pregnancy Not Safe - High Risk

Griseofulvin should not be used during pregnancy. The risk to the human fetus is proven based on studies in humans. Using Griseofulvin during pregnancy may lead to fetal abnormalities. Please consult your doctor.

Driving Generally Safe

Griseofulvin usually does not affect the ability to drive. Do not drive unless you are feeling well.

Liver Limited Data

Griseofulvin is contraindicated in patients with severe liver disease. The usage of Griseofulvin may also lead to hepatotoxicity. Please consult your doctor.
