Hydroquinone is commonly used in the treatment of Hyperpigmentation, and Melasma.
How Hydroquinone Works
Hydroquinone is a topical drug that treats hyperpigmentation by producing a reversible depigmentation of the skin by inhibiting enzymatic oxidation of tyrosine to 3,4-dihydroxyphenylalanine and suppressing melanocyte processes.

Warnings
Kidney Safe If Prescribed
Topical Hydroquinone is safe to be used in patients with severe kidney disease. Dose adjustment of Hydroquinone may not be needed.
Alcohol Safe
It is safe to consume alcohol with Hydroquinone because it is a topical drug. However, if you are feeling any significant reactions on taking it with alcohol consumption, please see your doctor for consultation.
Pregnancy Not Safe
Hydroquinone may be unsafe to use during pregnancy. Animal studies have shown side effects on the fetus, however, there are limited human studies. The benefits from use in pregnant women may be acceptable even with the risk. Please consult your doctor.
Driving Generally Safe
Hydroquinone usually does not affect the ability to drive. Do not drive unless you are feeling well.
Liver Limited Data
Topical Hydroquinone is safe to be used in patients with liver disease. Dose adjustment of Hydroquinone may not be needed.
Lactation Limited Data
No academic reports explaining the use of topical Hydroquinone for breastfeeding mothers have been located.
