Uses of Irbesartan

Irbesartan is commonly used to treat Diabetic Kidney Disease and used in the prevention of Heart Attack.

How Irbesartan Works

Irbesartan is an angiotensin II receptor antagonist. It works by blocking the effects of angiotensin II by binding to the AT₁ receptors. Hence, it blocks vasoconstriction and aldosterone secretion.

Side Effects of Irbesartan

Nausea, Vomiting, Dyspepsia, Fatigue, Dizziness, Diarrhea, Muscle pain, Orthostatic hypotension, Hyperkalemia

Warnings

Kidney High Risk

Irbesartan is contraindicated in patients with severe kidney impairment. Dose adjustment of Irbesartan and monitoring of serum creatinine may be needed if Irbesartan is used in patients with other kidney diseases. Please consult your doctor.

Alcohol Safe

There is no known interaction of Irbesartan with alcohol.

Pregnancy Not Safe

Irbesartan is contraindicated during pregnancy. Human reproductive studies have shown the presence of risk in the fetus with the use of Irbesartan. If pregnancy occurs, alternative treatment should be considered. Please consult your doctor.

Driving Generally Safe

Irbesartan usually does not affect the ability to drive. Do not drive unless you are feeling well.

Liver Limited Data

No dose adjustment is needed with liver impairment.

Lactation Limited Data

Irbesartan is probably unsafe to use during lactation as there is limited data on the use of Irbesartan during lactation and breastfeeding. Please consult your doctor.
