Uses of Melphalan
Melphalan is commonly used to treat multiple myeloma, breast cancer, ovarian carcinoma, polycythaemia vera, ovarian adenocarcinoma, neuroblastoma, melanoma and soft tissue sarcoma.
How Melphalan Works
Melphalan is an alkylating agent for cancer treatment. Forming the metabolite carbonium ions, it cross-links DNA strands and acts on both resting and rapidly dividing tumour cells, thereby inhibiting DNA and RNA synthesis.

Bone marrow suppression, Nausea, Vomiting, Diarrhea, Stomatitis, Alopecia

Kidney Use With Care
Melphalan should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease. Dose adjustment of Melphalan may be needed. Please consult your doctor before using it.
Alcohol Safe
Consuming alcohol in moderation doesn't cause disturbance to the pharmacokinetics of Melphalan. However, please consult your doctor before using it.
Pregnancy Not Safe
Melphalan may be unsafe to use during pregnancy. There is evidence of adverse effects on the fetus in human studies but the benefits from use in pregnant women may be acceptable despite the risk. Please consult your doctor before using it.
Driving Generally Safe
Melphalan cause minimal to no side effects which could affect your ability to concentrate and drive.
Liver Use With Care
Melphalan should be used with caution in patients with liver disease. Dose adjustment of Melphalan may be needed. Please consult your doctor before using it.
Lactation Not Advisable
Melphalan is not recommended for use during lactation.
