How Mirtazapine Works

Mirtazapine is an antidepressant that works by increasing noradrenergic and serotonin transmission, thereby increasing the hormones which were usually found low in depression.

Kidney Use With Care

Mirtazapine can be used in patients with kidney disease. However, dose adjustment may be needed. Therefore, please consult a doctor.

Alcohol Not Advisable

Taking alcohol with Mirtazapine should be avoided as it may increase the effect of the medication.

Pregnancy Limited Data

Studies in animals have indicated that this medication does not shown any teratogenic effect. Also, with limited data in human studies has shown that this medication does not increase the risk of congenital malformation. Therefore, usage may be considered if benefiting.

Driving Not advisable

(Do not drive unless you are feeling well.) Because Mirtazapine may cause side effects such as sleeping, sedation and dizziness, driving or handling machinery is not advisable.

Liver Safe If Prescribed

Mirtazapine can be used in patients with liver disease. However, dose adjustment may be needed. Therefore, please consult a doctor.

Lactation Safe If Prescribed

Mirtazapine is found to be excreted in the human's milk, although in very small amount. Therefore, breastfeeding is considered safe when weighing the benefit of the medication.
