Eicosapentaenoic acid and docosahexaenoic acid are long-chain n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids, which compete with arachidonic acid in cyclo-oxygenase and lipoxygenase pathways, reducing plasma triglycerides. It also has anti-inflammatory action and a reduction in platelet aggregation and production.
