How Pertussis Toxoid Works

Pertussis toxid is a component in the DPT vaccine that protects against Bordetella Pertussis infection by antibody production.

Side Effects of Pertussis Toxoid

Pain, Swelling & redness at injection site, Fever, Rash, Muscle weakness, Chills, Axillary lymph node swelling, Hypersensitivity

Warnings

Kidney Use With Care

It is recommended to administer the Pertussis Toxoid vaccine with caution in patients with renal impairment. There is limited data on the safety profile of the vaccine.

Alcohol Limited Data

Pertussis Toxoid vaccine is given during childhood and hence no data for the interaction with alcohol.

Pregnancy Not Safe

Animal studies have demonstrated that Pertussis Toxoid may cause adverse risks to the fetus and there are inadequate human studies. However, if there is a high risk of exposure to the pertussis infection in the community, the benefits of administering this vaccine over the potential risk should be assessed. The inactivated vaccine also may not cause any risk to the fetus.

Driving Generally Safe

Pertussis Toxoid usually does not affect the ability to drive. Do not drive unless you are feeling well.

Liver Limited Data

It is recommended to administer the Pertussis Toxoid vaccine with caution in patients with liver impairment. There is limited data on the safety profile of the vaccine.

Lactation Limited Data

It is not known whether Pertussis Toxoid is safe to be used during breastfeeding. The decision to administer the vaccine or continue breastfeeding depends on the benefits of vaccine to mother or benefits of breastfeeding to infant.
