How Pirfenidone Works

Pirfenidone is an immunosuppressants. It is an antifibrotic agent that works by decreasing the amount of inflammatory cells and factors that were found in high amounts in patients with fibrosis

Side Effects of Pirfenidone

Nausea/ vomiting, Diarrhea, Indigestion, Abdominal pain, Weight loss, Dizziness

Warnings

Kidney Use With Care

Pirfenidone can be used with caution in patients with mild to moderate kidney disease. However, it is contraindicated in patients with severe kidney disease.

Alcohol Safe

Although taking Pirfenidone with alcohol may be safe, it is only allowed in very small amount.

Pregnancy Limited Data

Although there is no data available on the effect of Pirfenidone on pregnant women, Pirfenidone should be stopped in planning for a pregnancy or even pregnant mothers.

Driving Not advisable

Do not drive unless you are feeling well. Pirfenidone may cause side effects such as fatigue and dizziness, all of which could affect your ability to concentrate and drive.

Liver Limited Data

Pirfenidone cannot be used in patients with liver problems.

Lactation Limited Data

It is not known about Pirfenidone effect and excretion in human milk, but animal studies has suggested that the medication is found in the milk.
