How Piroxicam Works

Warnings

Kidney Use With Care

Piroxicam should be used with caution in patients with severe kidney disease. Piroxicam plays a role in the maintenance of renal perfusion in patients whose renal blood flow and volume are decreased. Thus, Piroxicam may precipitate overt renal decompensation, which is typically followed by recovery to pre-treatment state upon discontinuation of the drug. Thus, careful monitoring of patients with renal disease is needed. Please consult your doctor.

Alcohol Not Advisable

It is unsafe to consume alcohol with Piroxicam due to increased risk of bleeding in your gastric or intestinal lining.

Pregnancy Not Safe

In view of the known effects of NSAIDs on the foetal cardiovascular system (risk of closure of the ductus arteriosus), use in the last trimester of pregnancy is contraindicated. Data from epidemiological studies suggest an increased risk of spontaneous abortion after use of Piroxicam synthesis inhibitors in early pregnancy

Driving Not advisable

Do not drive unless you are feeling well. Piroxicam may cause side effects such as dizziness, drowsiness, tiredness or visual disturbances, all of which could affect the ability to concentrate and drive.

Liver Limited Data

Piroxicam should be used with caution in patients with liver disease because it is metabolized predominantly by liver. Please consult your doctor for dose adjustment.

Lactation Limited Data

Piroxicam is prohibited for use in nursing mothers since safety for such use has not been established in human.
