Primidone is commonly used to treat Epilepsy, Essential Tremor

How Primidone Works

Primidone works by decreasing the excitability of the neurons and thus increases the seizure threshold. This prevents seizures episodes to repeat.

Side Effects of Primidone

Drowsiness, Imbalance, Vertigo, Loss of appetite, Headache, Visual disturbance, Nausea, Vomiting, Dizziness, Fatigue

Warnings

Kidney Use With Care

Dosage adjustment may be needed in patients with renal impairment.

Alcohol Not Advisable

It is not advisable to consume alcohol when taking Primidone due to potential worsening of side effect on the central nervous system.

Pregnancy Limited Data

Primidone has been reported to cause serious birth defects as with other anticonvulsants. It is thus not recommended to be used during pregnancy.

Driving Not advisable

It is not advisable to drive after Primidone treatment due to its potential side effects such as dizziness and headache which can affect the ability to concentrate and drive.

Liver Safe If Prescribed

Dosage adjustment may be needed for patient with hepatic impairment with close monitoring as well.

Lactation Safe If Prescribed

Primidone is found in the human breastmilk in low quantity. The nursing infant should be monitored for an adverse reaction such as drowsiness and thus should be stopped from using if such adverse effect occurs.
