Uses of Propiverine
Propiverine is commonly used to treat Overactive Bladder (OAB) Symptoms
How Propiverine Works
Propiverine inhibits detrusor muscle activity by inhibiting Ca influx and modulating intracellular Ca in urinary bladder smooth muscle cells. It also inhibits the stimulation of pelvic nerves due to anticholinergic action.
Side Effects of Propiverine
Headache, Abnormal accommodation reflex, Dry mouth, Constipation, Indigestion, Fatigue, Abdominal pain, Blurry vision, Dizziness
Warnings
Kidney Use With Care
Dose titration is not necessary in mild to moderate kidney disease. On the other hand, Propiverine should be used with caution in patients with severe kidney disease.
Alcohol Safe
It is safe to consume alcohol with Propiverine as there is no known drug interaction.
Pregnancy Limited Data
Propiverine may be unsafe to use during pregnancy. Animal studies have shown reproductive toxicity on the fetus, however, there are limited human studies.
Driving Not advisable
There is no information regarding Propiverine influence on the ability to drive. However, it may cause side effects such as dizziness and blurry vision all of which could affect your ability to concentrate and drive.
Liver Use With Care
There is no need to make dose adjustment of Propiverine in mild liver disease. Nevertheless, in moderate to severe liver disease, Propiverine is contraindicated.
Lactation Not Advisable
Propiverine is not safe to use during lactation as it is found to be excreted in mammal milk.
