Uses of S-Adenosyl Methionine

Ademetionine is commonly used in the treatment of alcoholic fatty liver disease, cholestatic liver diseases, liver disease, and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.

How S-Adenosyl Methionine Works

Ademetionine is a natural amino acid which can be found in the body. It acts mainly as a coenzyme which is important for the development of phospholipid bilayer of cell membranes, neurotransmitters formation in the central nervous system, sulfured compounds, and hepatic glutathione.

Side Effects of S-Adenosyl Methionine

Nausea, Vomiting, Diarrhea, Abdominal pain, Dyspepsia, Dry mouth, Gastrointestinal bleeding, Dizziness, Headache, Insomnia, Hot flushes, Muscle Spasm

Warnings

Kidney Use With Care

It is recommended to use S-Adenosyl Methionine with caution in patients with renal impairment.

Alcohol Not Advisable

It is not advisable to consume alcohol with S-Adenosyl Methionine as there is limited data on the interaction between both.

Pregnancy Limited Data

High doses of S-Adenosyl Methionine administered during the last 3 months of pregnancy does not cause any adverse effect on the fetus. It is advisable to use S-Adenosyl Methionine in the first trimester of pregnancy only if the benefits outweigh potential risks.

Driving Generally Safe

S-Adenosyl Methionine usually does not affect the ability to drive. Do not drive unless you are feeling well.

Liver Limited Data

S-Adenosyl Methionine is safe to be used in patients with liver impairment as the pharmacokinetic parameters are similar in patients with chronic liver disease and healthy volunteers.

Lactation Limited Data

The decision to use S-Adenosyl Methionine during breastfeeding depends on the benefits of treatment to the mother or the benefits of breastfeeding to the infant.
