Tetracaine is commonly used as Local Anesthesia (Numb Tissues In A Specific Area).
How Tetracaine Works
Tetracaine is an ester-type anaesthetic which acts by blocking the sodium ion channels, in turn preventing the initiation and conduction of the sensory impulses, thus forming an area of anaesthesia locally.
Side Effects of Tetracaine
Skin redness, Skin swelling, Skin rash/blistering, Stinging sensation on application site, Anxious/Restlessness, Drowsiness
Warnings
Kidney Safe If Prescribed
Tetracaine is safe to be used in patients with kidney impairment.
Alcohol Not Advisable
There is no known interaction between alcohol and Tetracaine when used concomitantly.
Pregnancy Not Safe
There are limited data on the safety of Tetracaine use during pregnancy but Tetracaine has been used in wide without apparent toxicities. Thus, caution use of Tetracaine has to be practised during pregnancy. Please consult your doctor.
Driving Generally Safe
Tetracaine usually does not affect the ability to drive. Do not drive unless you are feeling well.
Liver Limited Data
Tetracaine is safe to be used in patients with liver impairment.
Lactation Limited Data
Excretion of Tetracaine in the human breastmilk is unknown and the safety profile has not been established. Thus, it is not advisable to be used during breastfeeding.
