Uses of Trihexyphenidyl

Trihexyphenidyl/Benzhexol is commonly used to treat Drug Induced Abnormal Movements and Parkinson's Disease.

How Trihexyphenidyl Works

Trihexyphenidyl/Benzhexol is a selective M1 central muscarinic receptor antagonist. It inhibits the cholinergic activity and increases the dopamine level in the central nervous system which helps to provide smooth control of voluntary muscle movements.

Side Effects of Trihexyphenidyl

Mouth dryness, Flushing, Skin dryness, Dilated pupils, Tachycardia, Hypertension, Neurological disturbances

Kidney Use With Care

Dose adjustment may be needed in patients with kidney impairment. Please consult your doctor.

Alcohol Not Advisable

It is not advisable to consume alcohol and Trihexyphenidyl concomitantly as alcohol will accentuate the sedative effects and tachycardia.

Pregnancy Not Safe

There are insufficient studies on the use of Trihexyphenidyl during pregnancy in animal studies and human studies. Thus, it is not advisable to be used during pregnancy unless it is necessary. Please consult your doctor.

Driving Not advisable

Do not drive unless you are feeling well. Trihexyphenidyl may cause side effects such as dizziness, blurring of vision or nausea, all of which could affect your ability to concentrate and drive.

Liver Limited Data

Dose adjustment may be needed in patients with liver impairment. Please consult your doctor.

Lactation Limited Data

There are insufficient studies on the secretion of Trihexyphenidyl in body milk from animal studies and human studies. Thus, it is not advisable to be used during breastfeeding. Please consult your doctor.
