Ulipristal acetate is commonly used to treat Uterine Fibroids and also used as Emergency Contraception.
How Ulipristal Acetate Works
Ulipristal acetate is a synthetic selective progesterone receptor modulator which binds to the human progesterone receptor with a high affinity, subsequently inhibiting the ovulation thereby preventing pregnancy and also reduce the size of the fibroid.
Side Effects of Ulipristal Acetate
Headache, Dizziness, Nausea, Abdominal pain, Vomiting, Muscle/Back pain, Painful menstruation, Breast pain, Tiredness, Mood disturbances
Warnings
Kidney Safe If Prescribed
Ulipristal Acetate is safe to use in patients with kidney impairment.
Alcohol Safe
There is no known interaction between alcohol and Ulipristal Acetate. However, the risk of such concomitant use cannot be excluded. Please consult your doctor.
Pregnancy Not Safe - High Risk
There are limited data on animal studies and no data on human studies. Ulipristal Acetate has no therapeutic indication during pregnancy and it is not advisable to be used during pregnancy.
Driving Not advisable
Do not drive unless you are feeling well. Ulipristal Acetate may cause side effects such as dizziness, sleepiness or blurred vision, all of which could affect your ability to concentrate and drive.
Liver Use With Care
Caution use of Ulipristal Acetate has to be practised in patients with liver impairment as there are limited data from such patients.
Lactation Not Advisable
Ulipristal Acetate is known to secrete in human milk but the effect on breastfed child has not been studied. It is advisable that breastfeeding is discontinued for at least one week after consumption of Ulipristal Acetate.
