Uses of Vortioxetine

Vortioxetine is commonly used to treat Depression.

How Vortioxetine Works

Vortioxetine is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor which helps to increase the serotonergic activity leading to mood enhancement. This will help in patients with major depressive disorder.

Dizziness, Abnormal dreams, Flushing, Gut disturbances, Delayed ejaculation

Warnings

Kidney Use With Care

Caution use has to be exercised in patients with severe kidney impairment as there are limited data available.

Alcohol Not Advisable

Although there is no interaction shown when taking alcohol and Vortioxetine, alcohol intake is not advisable during the treatment of depression.

Pregnancy Not Safe

Animal studies of Vortioxetine have shown reproductive toxicity effects on foetus but there are limited data on human studies. It is not advisable during pregnancy unless the benefits outweigh the risks. Please consult your doctor.

Driving Generally Safe

Vortioxetine usually does not affect the ability to drive. Do not drive unless you are feeling well.

Liver Use With Care

Caution with the use of Vortioxetine has to be exercised in patients with severe liver impairment as there are limited data available.

Lactation Not Advisable

It has been proven that Vortioxetine will excrete in animal milk and it is expected to be the same in human. Thus, the decision of discontinuing breastfeeding or medications has to be made by taking into account of benefit-risk ratio.
