How Zinc Oxide Works

Zinc Oxide is an ingredient usually found in moisture foundation, sunscreen and lotion creams. It may soothe and protect the skin by providing a physical barrier to the skin. It has weak antiseptic properties, can reflect UV radiation and may sometimes be used as a sunscreen.

Alcohol Limited Data

There is no known interaction between alcohol and Zinc Oxide when used topically.

Pregnancy Limited Data

Topical Zinc Oxide has not been assigned to a pregnancy category by the FDA. There are no data on the pregnancy safety of Zinc Oxide in animal studies and human studies. However, when used topically on unbroken skin, the amount of absorption is inappreciable. Thus, the use of Zinc Oxide during pregnancy is generally safe with the advise of a doctor.

Driving Generally Safe

Zinc Oxide has no effect on the ability to drive.

Topical Zinc Oxide is safe to be used in patients with liver disease.

Lactation Limited Data

There's also no data on the excretion of Zinc Oxide into human milk. Thus, appropriate use of topical Zinc Oxide is generally safe during breastfeeding.
